Planned Giving

Leave a legacy reflecting your values to the Citizens Research Council by supporting the Research Council with the donation of cash or securities, as a beneficiary in your will, retirement plan, life insurance policy or other planned giving vehicles.

Legacy Leadership Circle

The Citizens Research Council continues to do great work after more than 100 years. Our ability to continue as an independent, non-partisan source of public policy research depends on support from people like you. The Legacy Leadership Circle was created to enable that longevity. Your values can be supported long after you are gone.  The Legacy Leadership Circle was inspired by a generous endowment gift made by Jennifer and Terence Adderley in 2016.

Membership is open to all who generously and thoughtfully plan and declare their intent to include Citizens Research Council in their estate plan. As a legacy donor you have the option of adding to our endowment or funding general operations.

“I understand the critical need for a non-partisan, independent voice analyzing consequences of proposed public policy in Michigan,” said Terry Adderley [pictured with his wife Jennifer], a native Detroiter and former chairman of Kelly Services, a Fortune 500 company.  “Policy makers, business leaders and our citizens must have access to information without political spin. …  We must provide the needed financial resources so the Citizens Research Council can continue its good work for the next 100 years.”

Bequests allow everyone to leave a legacy for future generations. You do not need to be a millionaire to use your will to donate a specific dollar amount, specific item, or percentage of your estate after you are gone. Ensure your values are supported long after you are gone. Help leave a better world for your children, grandchildren, and future generations.

Your legacy gift will provide long-term funding and support to ensure that the Research Council will be able to promote well-informed public policy by delivering factual, unbiased analyses of the most important issues facing our state for future generations. As a legacy donor you have the option of adding to our existing endowment (hyperlink), funding general operations, or providing future funding for special research projects.

We offer many flexible and simple donation options and encourage you to consult with your financial planner, tax attorney, CPA, or whomever advises you on your financial decisions before making any lifetime or legacy giving decisions.

Give to Reflect the Way You Live Life

Appreciated Securities – Donating stocks and other securities is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give. A charitable contribution of appreciated securities – such as stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds that have realized significant appreciation over time – is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.

Donor Advised Funds – Distribute remaining assets to the Research Council when your account is closed.

Wills, Estates, and Deferred Gifts – Gifts can be directed through a will in a predetermined dollar amount or percentage of one’s estate designated to Citizens Research Council. They are usually revocable in nature.

Life Insurance Policies or Retirement Funds – One of the easiest gifts you can make is to name Citizens Research Council as a primary or secondary beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy, 401(k), or IRA. This is a popular gift to give because you can set it up yourself. Designation of Citizens Research Council can be as a primary or secondary beneficiary.

Charitable Gift Annuities and Remainder Trusts – These are irrevocable and funded with cash, securities, or other appreciated assets such as real estate.  It is gifted in exchange for an income stream for life or for a fixed number of years.  The remainder of the gift would be distributed to Citizens Research Council at the termination of the contract.
