Fair Game: An Admissions Tax that Levels the Playing Field

Where:

BasBlue
110 E. Ferry St.
Detroit

Time:

5:30 – 7:30 PM
(Doors open at 5:30 for cocktails and conversation, program at 6:00)

What:

Detroit’s sports and entertainment scene is booming — but who really benefits?
As suburban and out-of-town fans enjoy taxpayer-funded stadiums and entertainment venues, Detroit residents continue to shoulder many of the city’s costs. The Citizens Research Council invites Detroiters to explore how a local admissions (entertainment) tax could help ensure that visitors who benefit from Detroit’s resurgence also contribute their fair share — generating meaningful new revenue for city services and property tax relief.

Join us for a dynamic evening of policy and conversation, featuring Research Council President Eric Lupher presenting findings from Evaluating Local-Option Admissions Taxes in Michigan Cities, followed by discussion on how fiscal tools like this can shift Detroit’s growth toward neighborhoods and equitable reinvestment.
