Each year, the Research Council hosts a fundraising dinner that brings together elected officials, corporate executives, and community leaders to recognize the importance of our work and honor an outstanding Michigan leader.
This year, Citizens Research Council is delighted to honor two exceptional individuals with the prestigious Eugene A. Gargaro Public Service Award in recognition of his public service and commitment to civic engagement: Former U.S. Representatives Dan Kildee and Fred Upton of Michigan.
Former Congressman Dan Kildee has spent the better part of his life serving the people of Michigan, as a member of the Flint Board of Education, a Genesee County Commissioner, the Genesee County Treasurer, and then as member of Congress representing Michigan’s 5th District.
Former Congressman Fred Upton served the greater Kalamazoo area for 18 years as a member of Congress representing Michigan’s 3rd, 6th, and 4th Districts (you know you have tenure when the district numbers change around you after each census redistricting). Prior to joining Congress, Fred was a congressional staff member and worked in the Office of Management and Budget during the Reagan administration.
