Cryptocurrency Donations

Yes, we accept Cryptocurrency.

The Internal Revenue Service does not recognize a gift of cryptocurrency to the Citizens Research Council of Michigan as a donation of money. Instead, cryptocurrencies are treated as capital assets and are subject to capital gains tax. Thus, gifts of these assets are treated similarly to gifts of appreciated stocks. In short, a donor can avoid capital gain tax liability completely and can also receive an income tax charitable deduction.
